There are disabled access hotels in Llandudno if you are coming up for the Victorian Extravaganza this May Bank Holiday Weekend. The Cae Mor is on the seafront, near to all the Victorian activities and the Pier. There are plenty of ground floor rooms and wheelchair accessibility at the entrance. The hotel is right next to Venue Cymru too if you want to take in a show in the evening. The hotel can provide pre show dining.

The Extravaganza is a must see annual event to celebrate the Victorian history in Llandudno. It will be a busy hub of stalls, rides, Victorian themed performances, stilt walkers and live music. There will be a traditional Victorian sideshow act too! The late 19th century saw much new construction in Llandudno with the addition of the Pier, many hotels and trams up to the Orme, making it far more accessible.

A favourite of many at the Victorian Extravaganza are the exhibitions. Steam wagons, Victorian agricultural engines and Showmans Road Locomotives will be on display over the weekend. There is a parade at 1pm each day featuring many in Victorian costume and Victorian buses and coaches.

You can find all you need to know about the times and locations of events and performances in the Llandudno Victorian Extravaganza Souvenir Programme. These will be on sale at booths near the entrance to the event but the Extravaganza itself is free to enter.

Llandudno’s Victorian Extravaganza will run from Saturday 4th of May-Monday 6th of May. The event has been running annually since 1986 and is highly popular with tourists and locals alike. It is one of the best known Victorian themed festivals in the UK. The town is easy to traverse for those with mobility issues and there are disabled access hotels in Llandudno but book soon as there are only two days left until the Victorian Extravaganza 2013. Let’s all look forward to a sunny Victorian weekend this bank holiday.

The Llandudno Extravaganza and Transport Festival take place over the course of 3 days from the 4th of May to the 6th, and getting around will be easier because of the Shuttle Bus Service; free of charge!

The festival itself is one of the most popular in the whole of the UK and is one of the largest festivals in Wales; it attracts visitors from all over the country as it gives the tourists a taste of the past. Parades, entertainers, shopping stalls, music and modern to Victorian style rides are included in the Extravaganza.

The Road Run takes place on the Saturday and in the World Heritage town Conwy, it takes a route through Llanrhos and Deganwy, so locals can enjoy the spectacles from very near their own homes and Sunday includes the two main events, the Extravaganza Street parade and the ‘Crosville’ gathering of the Victorian buses and coaches. Those who take part in the festival parade are joined by an array of cyclists, marching bands, traction engines and many other people in costume; they circle the iconic town of Conwy also. This parade takes place at 1pm everyday but in different scenic and historical locations.

The second Road run begins on the next day -the Sunday- as it journeys around the Marine Drive due to the fantastic and scenic views along the coast, the parade then begins again on Monday at Noon. They also can include special events and in the past they have included an ‘An Evening of Burlesque and Cabaret’.

Along with the dazzling spectacle of a variety of steam and traction engines comes a theme/ celebration of that theme each year; there have been many over the past decade:

- In 2008 there was the celebration of ‘Local Heroes’

- In 2007 the theme was the ‘Llandudno and Colwyn Bay Tramway Centenary’

- And In 2004 the celebration and recollection of 75 years of ‘Llandudno UDC (Urban District Council) Transport’

- Plus many more

There are many shopping stalls on the field of the extravaganza through the bank holiday weekend; these take place very near to the rides and the campsites on Bodafon Farm, buyers and sellers come from all over Wales (and locally!) to sell their items:

Antiques

Aromatherapy products

Clothes

Models e.g. cars, trains, buses and steam engines

Videos/DVD’s

Sundries

Toys and gifts etc.

Seafront Hotels in Llandudno and B&B’s are not unfamiliar, they line the coastline including a wide range of accommodation choices for large families, couples; young and old and there is also the option to join the caravan and camping club, an application form and registration of vehicle is all you need, not even a fee of membership is required to stay for the bank holiday.

" width="282" height="187" />rom the Cae Mor Hotel llandudno in preparation for its annual Christmas Fayre from Thursday 15th November to Sunday 18th November. The Christmas Fayre, formerly known as the Celtic Winter Fayre, has been a key event on the North Wales Christmas calendar for years and attracts visitors from all over the United Kingdom and beyond. The seaside resort is located a few miles short drive along the A55 which gives you another reason to get into the festive spirit and start those Christmas celebrations early.

A Christmas Experience to Suit All Tastes

This year the number of stalls will be increasing to cope with the demand and popularity of the Christmas Fayre. Last year’s event was so popular that 20,000 visitors flocked from all over North Wales to the scenic seaside town, to sample quality local food guaranteed to tickle your taste-buds and give you inspiration for festive dishes and indulgences over the Christmas period. North Wales produces a huge range of quality home grown produce, from Celtic Country Wines, cheese, jams, chutneys and crackers and there will be an outside hog roast to warm you up from the winter weather.

Craft enthusiasts will be able to purchase original handmade and unusual gifts that will serve as memorable stocking fillers for friends and family. To name but a few, craft stall holders include Jasper Sparkle, a jewellery designer who recently exhibited at the Anglesey Show, an artist Charles Bell who produces beautiful marine and landscape watercolour pictures and if you want to give bird watching a go in the new year the well known RSPB Cymru will be looking for new members.

Go Down the Rabbit Hole this Christmas

The Christmas Fayre will take up the whole of Madoc Street and the festive atmosphere will spill into the rest of Llandudno with seasonal cheer. An Alice in Wonderland themed Christmas Grotto will be installed in an empty shop unit in the Victorian Shopping Centre to give festive revellers an unforgettable opportunity to see various scenes from Alice in Wonderland re-enacted by original props from the old Rabbit Hole museum before meeting Father Christmas at the end.

Sample the Dickensian Christmas Atmosphere

All of the shops in the Victorian Centre will also be making an effort to re-create an authentic Dickensian Christmas atmosphere by having members of staff dress up in festive costume and hosting a best dressed window competition. The Mayor of Llandudno will be opening the Christmas Fayre immediately after switching on the Christmas lights on the evening of the 15th in the Victoria Shopping Centre at 4:45pm.

When I first visited the Cae Mor seafront hotel in Llandudno the first thing that struck me was its superb location, located right on the seafront looking over Llandudno Bay. I was also very impressed with their attention to detail especially in regard to the thought put into access for people with disabilities and mobility problems.

They have two access points one at the front of the hotel which has two small steps up into the entrance hall, but at the side of leading off the car park is a flat pathway which is ideal for wheelchair access and those with mobility scooters.

With bedrooms on the ground floor specially set out to cater for visitors with a disability this is very much a caring hotel, from those rooms the residents lounge, bar and dining room are easily accessed and the food served in the dining room is wonderfully prepared by the in house Chef and his team and well presented and served by the keen and friendly staff in the dining room.

When you want to venture out Llandudno is the ideal holiday resort for those with walking difficulties, the town set on a flat plain between the Little Orme and the Great Orme. As the name implies the Great Orme is the bigger of the two and can be ascended gently and easily by means of the tramway that goes from Church walks at the top end of the town to the summit of the Great Orme. From where beautiful views of Anglesey and Snowdonia will take your breath away.

To entertain you in your evenings right next door the Cae Mor hotel is the Venue Cymru which always hosts entertainment of the highest standard. Shows such as Grease and the Sound of music have been some of the recent productions and of course there are always a selection of individual singers or groups or even comedians performing there, it is always part of the service at Cae Mor Hotel to obtain tickets for shows should you want them and they will also offer pre show food for you.

Apart from the trip up to the top of the Great Orme there are so many other things you can do in and around Llandudno including open top bus rides that even take in the spectacular neighbouring town of Conwy. The recently opened Mostyn Oriel Gallery is well worth a visit with exhibitions that are regularly changed and the café there is an ideal opportunity to rest and resuscitate be fore you go on to the shopping trip.

Llandudno now has a new shopping park aptly named ‘Parc Llandudno’ where you will find most leading retailers. In town itself you will find the newly refurbished Marks and Spencer stores, the men’s and children’s sections are housed in a separate store, as well as a departmental store called Clare’s which is so nice and traditional.

Not far from Llandudno is the lovely setting of the village of Betws Y Coed known as the gateway to Snowdonia, it is easy to get there from Llandudno by train, a lovely journey that takes you through the Conwy valley.

With so much to do in and around Llandudno you will be delighted with having the Cae Mor hotel as your base, the management and the friendly staff will be there to look after all of your needs and to offer advice about where to go and the things to do.

All in all the Cae Mor seafront Hotel Llandudno is the perfect holiday venue.

There are numerous Disabled access hotels in llandudno but not many that affords a seafront location like the Cae Mor!

For those staying at the Cae Mor Hotel Llandudno, a visit to the adjacent Venue Cymru is a must.

Veune Cymru (Welsh Theatre) is one of the main attractions for all ages in Llandudno as it attracts a great variety of comedians, musicians and actors that star in the many shows that appear at the Venue. Comedians such as Frankie Boyle and Paul Merton have performed there as well as popular Pantomimes such as Aladdin and Peter Pan. Even the local dancing schools and groups perform there shows here, ‘Pearl Shaw’ have been doing their dance routines for a good five years now.

As well as shows for the middle and younger age range there are also numerous shows that the older generation will enjoy including English classics such as ‘An Inspector Calls’ and ‘Oh What a Lovely War2’.

Since 1894, there has always been a theatre on the foundations on which Venue Cymru now stands and over the past century, developers and designers have been making the popular theatre more and more modern. It is now in a state of total modernisation, pane glass windows, 1500 seats in the auditorium and even business meetings are now held there.

The theatre had always been rather large but the number of seats became a great deal fewer but as the years went on, the seats were increased by about a hundred each time it got a new owner. When another building was constructed a conference centre was built in the once named ‘Arcadia’ and this had 1,800 seats with at least 2,500 standing but the theatre was the proms pride and joy.

Since then, bars have been put in place for intervals and pre-performance drinks; Caitlin’s Bar, the Foyer Bar and the circle bar are the additions to the complex and are open at least an hour before show time. The Circle bar is on the first and second floors and allow a view out on to the beach and coast, alcohol and soft drinks can be bought here and there are seats and raised tables for sitting and standing while you wait. However, Caitlin’s Bar is open daily from 9.30am and serve a range of sandwiches, teas, coffees and pastries for everyone’s enjoyment.

A wooden statue of the Queen of Hearts, from the classic story Alice in Wonderland is the latest addition to Llandudno, on the new tourist trail, where Lewis Carroll was inspired to write the story, after holidaying with Alice Liddel in the 1860’s and 70’s. The new statue is now one of four on the Alice trail, and is located between the Llandudno railway station and Happy Valley Park.

The cedar wood figure of the Queen of Hearts on Gloddaeth Street will be proving to be another attraction to Llandudno, along with the other statues The White Rabbit, The Mad Hatter and the Queen of Hearts. The statues were designed and created by sculptor Simon Hedger, on behalf of the local council.

Lewis Carroll was inspired to write the tale, by young Alive Liddell, who at the time was told the made up story, who then asked for it to be written down, to read again. This was during the time that Alice Liddell holidayed with her family in Llandudno, between the 1960s and 70s. The local council believe that this new addition, making four to the set of statues, as well as the historic background that Llandudno has, will increase tourism with Alice in Wonderland fans across the world, especially from USA and Japan, due to the inspiration of the story rooting from Llandudno. The existing White Rabbit statue which was recently damaged is currently being repaired, and is in talks to be moved to a nearby boating lake in the future.

Should you wish to visit these statues and the area of Llandudno, then you will be making a great decision. Llandudno has plenty to offer with attractions and activities available for every age, meaning whether you come alone, with a partner, as a family or with friends, you will not have a boring hour of the day, no matter how long you stay.

The Great Orme Tramway Llandudno is the only remaining fixed cable tram system in great Britain and one of only 3 surviving in the world.

The Tramway is the easiest and most enjoyable way to make the ascent up the Great Orme, running since 1902 to this day, originally powered by steam until it was converted to our modern day electricity. The tramway is a great and traditional way of getting to the summit; enjoy rolling past incredible views with a friendly and leisurely atmosphere. Stretching from Llandudno all the way to the summit, the Tramway has been lovingly restored so that you can rediscover the same journey people made more than 100 years ago, ready to serve visitors in the new century.

The journey makes for a fantastic day out, after enjoying the ascent, take a break at the summit café where you can enjoy staggering views, where on a clear day you can see Snowdonia, Anglesey and even The Isle of Man, The Lake District, and Black pool. There are lots to things to do up the Great Orme and the best way is traveling in style, rather than turning a day out into an exhibition by walking up.

The Great Orme Tramwy is only a 15min walk from the Cae Mor Hotel Llandudno.

The seaside resort town of Llandudno, Wales, has many great attractions worth visiting. Llandudno encompasses several neighboring townships, such as Craig-y-Don, Llanrhos and Penrhyn Bay. The town is located between Bangor and Rhyl, being only a 15 minute drive away from Snowdonia. The town is very accessible, both by car (along the A55) and by railway.

Llandudno was built in the Victorian era as a holiday destination promoting the Great Orme. It has kept its Victorian style and still has the Llandudno Pier, as well as many other attractions, such as Happy Valley, Venue Cymru, Parc Llandudno, the old tram line, indoor skiing, high street and much more.

One of the main attractions in Llandudno is the Copper Mines. The Copper Mines are located beneath the Great Orme and attract many people, from tourists and cavers, to archaeologists and geologists. The Copper Mines tunnels date back to the Bronze Age, up to four thousand years ago.

Llandudno is located on the Creuddyn peninsula; the North beach is the most popular with many hotels such as the Cae Mor, the Llandudno pier and the promenade which is busy with tourists throughout the summer. On the other side of town is the West Shore, it is a very appealing location and is less busy. There are often swans; a café and a children’s play area, as well as the beach itself and fantastic views of the Conwy mountains.

Find out more about the Local Attractions

Llandudno is surrounded by many other popular villages and towns worth visiting, including Conwy, which is a medieval style town enclosed in ancient castle walls and home to Conwy Castle; Conwy has many festivals throughout the year which attract tourists and locals alike.

Venturing into Snowdonia also opens a whole new selection of villages and popular attractions to visit, such as the famous Betws-Y-Coed, the popular Bodnant Gardens and the town of Llanberis, located at the foot of Snowdon, the highest mountain in England and Wales.
